Estee Lauder Idealist - pore minimizer skin refinisher

I decided to lash out and spend £38 on something to reduce my pores, even though apparently nothing can in fact reduce them because they don't actually ever increase in size.  The skin refinisher comes in a lovely aqua coloured bottle and it smells heavenly, so if you like pretty bottles and nice smells this might be right up your street.  Unless you find smearing your face with a tonne of silicone gives you bloody great spots all over your chin. In which case it wont be.

I have on my desk a pre-paid envelope addressed to Estee Lauder, any moment now I will be popping my bottle of skin refinisher into it and sending it off for a refund.

Since I stopped using this I have discovered that my ELDWL actually wears better without it underneath - it seemed to make my foundation look powdery, presumably because I have dry skin and it was very mattifying so any "glow" I might have had was mopped up and whisked away, leaving me cake faced, yuk.

(Whilst I was in Boots trying to hand my skin refinisher to the nice lady on the Estee Lauder counter from whence it had come - no bloody chance! - I made a teeny purchase of some anti-ageing skin care.  Post due soon but so far, loving it - you wouldn't believe me if I told you I could see a visible reduction in my fine lines and wrinkles almost right away would you? Well, I did!)

    1. Don't be sorry Charlie! I should have realised that pore minimising was going to involve and element of mattifying and had I given it any thought at all would have realised it wasn't for me! x

  2. It did exactly the same thing to me, I'm afraid. My skin just doesn't like silicones (dimethicone I think is the one) so I don't use primers anymore, they all seem to do the same.

Have you tried the Bobbi Brown Extra Repair Foundation? I've been on the hunt for a good foundation for dry skin, and that won't exaggerate my enoooormous pores, and this BB one is amazing for me! It's a cream foundation so it's quite thick, but it goes on really nicely with the Real Techniques buffing brush, and it seems to fill in my pores and really helps disguise them.

I know you've just found a new love with the ELDWL, but a sample of the BB might be worth a try? I tried a sample of the ELDWL after seeing it on you, but it really exaggerated my pores.

By the way, can't believe Boots wouldn't take it back. That's terrible. I always take stuff back to Boots if I find it doesn't work for me, that's part of the reason why I shop there. x

  3. Hi Gillian, thanks for the comment and for the suggestion about the BB Extra Repair Foundation - I will definitely have a look at that next time I am in either Leeds or Manchester. I do tend to favour ranges that I can pick up in Huddersfield over those that require a trip to get them, but if the product justifies the journey then so be it! I think this was specific to the EL counter in my Boots, I have returned skin care products to the Clarins counter in the same store without any problems, so hadn't anticipated the whole palaver I now have of posting back the bloody stuff! x

    1. It is, I need to take some pics of the products and then write the blog post - but next time you are in Boots have a look at the Dr Nick Lowe The Secret is Out range *taps nose & winks!* I am bloody loving it! Got day cream, serum and night cream - some dimethicone in serum which might be an issue for you, no probs for me at all - night cream has lovely orange flower fragrance and might still be on 3 for 2 so spend £53 + save £25. That was my blog post tbh, minus the pics!

  6. Oh, and another foundation candidate, Laura Mercier Creme Smooth. Very similar to the BB one (fills in pores nicely) but with slightly less 'slip' to it. Worth a sample if you're near a counter. I've just bought the full size of it and it's a better colour match for me than the BB. This one needs applying with fingers though, I find with a brush it's a bit too heavy.

And I'm just ordering the Dr Nick Lowe stuff. I'll let you know how I get on :)

    1. Have you considered blogging?! If not you should! Re the Dr Nick Lowe, I am sat here desperately hoping that you have dry skin??? The night and day creams are both pretty heavy, bliss on my dry skin but poss not ideal if your's isn't? Fingers crossed you aren't now wishing I had mentioned that a lot sooner.

    2. I have considered blogging 'cause I love my makeup and skincare, but I don't have any writing talent I'm afraid so I just lurk around reading everyone else's :)

I'm not sure about my skin actually. I think I'm very dry on my cheeks, redness and everything, but not so much in the T-zone. Classic combination I guess. I'm tempted to give the Dr Nick Lowe a go and if it doesn't work out, send it back, but I'm a bit wary now of Boots not taking it back if I've opened it. I've got until Monday to decide as that's when it's being delivered. I've also been considering Liz Earle, any opinion on that range?

    3. Gillian I need to write a blog post for you! I love Liz Earle, but those products have no active anti ageing ingredients, as far as I am aware, and at 45 I need stuff to be working for me! I am sure you are already reading Caroline Hirons blog - Beauty Mouth - click on the link on my blogroll on the left if you dont. She is an authority on skin care and I would use the the products she recommends if I had the necessary ££ as I dont I have taken her advice and tried to find products that have the same active ingredients but that dont cost the earth. I will try and find the time to write a fuller post tomorrow on why I opted for the dr nick lowe products over the liz earle, which i had been loving. If you can get to Boots they have pots out so you can test the products before you open the ones you have ordered. Hope this helps! x

  8. I've never been a fan of E.L., other than the Daywear tinted moisturizer, which is really nice. I know a number of women who swear by their DW foundation.

  9. Are silicones the same crap that they put into serums because I hate serums with a passion!

  10. beat an egg white and smooth evenly over the section of large pores. wait until it dries to wash off. repeat once a week until pores are small. and apply moisturizer. pore strips

  11. However, this could also be attributed to an all round decrease
in anxiety levels. In some instances, doctors prescribe

Sad to say, most people are either unaware or unconcerned about the negative
    effects of too much noise.

  12. When covering the area, it should be enough to use a regular bandage.
